BLIZZARD OF '05 HITS THE MARYLAND CENTRAL
23 JAN 2005 - After previous plowing operations resulted in problems, operations came to a complete halt as the Blizzard of '05 hit.
Mother Nature's final blow was an avalanche that buried the snow-plow.  At that point all operations ceased and all railroad employees went home to ensure their families were safe.
Farther to the west, Mogul No. 6 fought the blizzard and plowed through the snow drifts on the bridge.  On Sunday, with the sun shining after the blizzard, Mudhen No. 463 followed suit, only to find an avalanche and ice on the tracks at Gunpowder Falls.
No further outdoor operations are expected to ensue for a week or more.  Mean-while, repairs and improvements are continuing on buildings and rolling stock.
